Netflix Originals: The diamonds in the trash - Episode 1:

Maybe you are sitting alone on a Friday night because you did not want to spend 10 pounds on half-assed cocktail in a crammed pub with strangers laughing uncontrollably near your face, acting like Covid-19 suddenly dissapeared.

Maybe you are with your friends with pizza infront of you, in your 13th argument of the week regarding what you want to watch.

There is one common thing in these two situations; the Netflix homescreen staring at you for hours while you scroll to every existing playlist a poor fucker who works at Netflix had to get together, for your ungrateful ass.

Let's not kid ourselves. Netflix is not the best at producing movies or TV shows. It is often full with cringy lines, bad plotpoints, stupid characters who are gonna have you screaming at your TV like a maniac and more. Well friends, I am here to save you. I have put myself in the torture of watching several Netflix Originals so you won't have to. Lucky for you, I have been working like a scavenger picking the best bunch out of the trash so I can save you precious time for doing whatever it is that you do.

Welcome to the first episode of a series I will be calling The diamonds in the trash.

Warning: Take note that the catalog of Netflix depends on your region. Some of the movies may not be available to where you are living. You can use Hola VPN if you want but you did not get it from me *wink wink*.

Warning #2: Take note that in this series we are going to explore Netflix Originals or movies PRODUCED by Netflix. Not Holywood or Indepentent movies that are available on Netflix. This means that you should not expect the best out of the best. These are movies that will challenge you and make you experiment with your taste.

1. Spree (2020)

Spree has been released under the radar of everyone in 2020 and I have no idea why. The movie stars Joe Keery as Kurt Kunkle, a kind of deranged sociopathic individual who has one goal in life; going viral. The movie uses an exciting way of telling a story thorugh Kurt's streams and social media livestreams. Moreover, the protagonist's sanity slowing disappearing into the void is what makes this movie worth watching while the chances of a crazy Uber driver taking advantage of the application for malicous attempts is what makes this movie actually scary. For more, you can actually read my review by browsing the available posts.

Spree has not done well with critics but thats maybe because most of them like sniffing their own farts while watching pretentious art house films. Trust me on this one, just sit back relax and give this modern American Psycho a watch. You will not regret it.

Rating: 8/10

2. The Perfection (2018)

The Perfection is another movie that has been released under the radar back in 2018. The Perfection is a stunning modern psychological horror which tells the story of Charlotte Willmore, a talented celist who had to drop out of her prestigious music school located in Boston so she could take care of her terminally ill mother. However, when her mother dies, she reaches to Anton, her former teacher and head of the said prestigious school and joins him in Shangai where he attempts to find more brilliant students for his music school. There she finds his current star pupil Lizzie (played by Logan Browning) who posseses a life that could have been for Charlotte.

The Perfection is a movie filled with suspense and WTFesque moments which can make a grown man sick to his stomach. While initially looking like your classic revenge tale, The Perfecton hides more layers than one thinks. In addition, the cinematography is beautiful, the soundtrack posseses a variety of classical music and its disturbing plot will ensure that you are going to be on the edge of your seat.

Once again, reviewers were too pretentious to appreciate this movie since they got all political.

Give this movie a watch and get back to me with the feedback

Rating: 7.8/10

3. Wheelman (2017)

SWheelman is an action-thriller movie that was released in 2017 and stars Frank Grillo ( Crossbones from Captain America Civil War, The Purge movies etc) as an unamed driver known only as Wheelman who acts as the gateaway driver for random jobs. The everything-goes-bad point comes when the boss on the phone instructs him with double crossing he two men who were in on a job with him. The Handler makes our protagonist his bitch by making threats towards Wheelman's wife and daughter. Time is racing and so does our protagonist.

Wheelman follows an interesting concept that has actually been done before. This has to do with filming a movie almost in its entirety inside of a car. This is something that you should know before you actually watch this movie. Do not expect John Wick quality fight scenes in this movie!

However, this does not mean it is not fun. There is action, suspense and ticks all the action movie checkboxes in a stylish and presentable way, which makes it stand out from many released action movies of the present and the past.

Rating: 7.9/10

4. White Tiger (2021)

The White Tiger is the most recently release out of the movies in this list but it is an adaptation of the novel with the same name released in 2008 and written by Aravind Adiga. The White Tiger is going to give you a Slumdog Millionaire vibe since it gives you an insight of India's apparent disparity. The movie follows Balram Halwai, a village boy who wants to make it out from his village and the pre-made path made for him which involves him getting maried just to expand his family. As a result, we as the viewers follow his journey towards Dalhi and his relationships with the corrupt upper class but also with a couple who made their way back to India from the USA. The movie gives a perspective towards India's class strugle while it also explores topics such as individualism, suffering, disparity of classes, corruption and religion. The performances in this movie are astonishing and the actor who portrays Balram (Adarsh Gourav) provides the character with a duality that captures the true spirit of a humble good man who has been forced to do untold things.
